Gaze Down, Float Up is an installation composed of fifty sculptural figures presented at MassHaus, the private studio and gallery of artist Aboud Fares. The exhibition marks the opening of MassHaus as a space dedicated to sculptural practice, experimentation, and installation-based works.
The sculptures are arranged across the gallery in a suspended, quiet formation, positioned at and below eye level. Visitors move through the space from above, encountering the works as a collective presence rather than isolated objects. This spatial relationship emphasizes distance, stillness, and a slowed way of seeing.
The figures depict a calm, resting state forms that appear unoccupied by urgency or tension. Repetition and variation create a subtle rhythm, allowing the sculptures to function together as a single field rather than individual statements. The experience shifts between observing from afar and noticing small differences up close.
Rather than offering a fixed narrative, the exhibition invites a personal encounter. The works remain open and understated, allowing visitors to project their own state of mind onto what they see.
Gaze Down, Float Up reflects a moment of inner calm within the artist’s practice and extends that state into the space of the gallery creating an environment where stillness can be noticed, shared, and briefly held.
